The legendary hat of exquisite fine weave made in Ecuador, the Montecristi. The METIER Montecristi Semi-Fino is a hand-woven hat of weave grade count from 21 to 27 knots per lineal inch. There is no tool used to produce this weave, only the human fingers. The natural fiber with which it is woven is a natural material extracted from an Ecuadorian palm leaf known as paja toquilla, Carludovica palmata. We have lived and worked with these specialty artisans for over 15 years. This is an ancestral technique that has a 6.000 year history. Each hat is woven in each artisan's home and can take them up to 3 months to finish one hat of this weave count depending on the finesse of the weave.
