If there is a legend, this is the myth! The METIER Montecristi Ultra-Fino is the hat from where the legend originates. Its exquisite fine weave is sought after by many artisans, but only the more skilled ones are able to achieve it. Made in Ecuador, the METIER Montecristi Ultra-Fino hat is top of the top.

The soft, tight weave makes the Ultra-Fino extraordinary for sun-protection. It weights like a feather and feels like a petal. It took Paulina, a very skilled house-based artisan, 6 months to craft the one pictured here. These are rarer than diamonds. You can determine the weave grade by counting the stitches in a linear inch for an overall reference.

The METIER Montecristi Super-Fino is a hand-woven hat of weave grade count from 42 to 52 knots per lineal inch. There is no tool used to produce this weave, only the human fingers. The natural fiber with which it is woven is a natural material extracted from an Ecuadorian palm leaf known as paja toquilla, Carludovica palmata, and known as vegetable silk for its softness and resistance. We have lived and worked for over 15 years with the master artisans that are capable of creating these treasures. This is an ancestral technique that has a 6.000 year history. Each hat is woven in each artisan's home and can take them anywhere from 6 to 9 months to finish one hat depending on the finesse of the weave.
